Player’s Code of Conduct
As a Christian league, we will hold our selves up to a high standard. It is our collective desire to be a part of a league where we play hard and compete without compromising our efforts to act Christ-like in our life.
General Guidelines
Behaviour in general
- Be a role model – for your spectators, teammates and officials
- Avoid shouting and disrespectful conduct at all times
- Avoid profanities and offensive language!
- Remember who we are – Christians – Let’s always act like we should
Scorekeepers and Volunteers
- Remember, the scorekeepers are volunteers and are doing their best
- Do not take up any issues directly with the scorekeepers – the Team Captain may address the game officials who will verify and rectify the situation
Officials
- Officials make mistakes and will hardly every reverse it
- You are not entitled to agree with every call
- Relax and run back – at the end of the day it balances out
Failure to adhere to these guidelines will result in firm but fair consequences.
Guidelines for Negative Conduct
- Players who receive two technical fouls will be ejected from the game and must leave the gym. The ejected player is also suspended from the next scheduled league game.
- 2 game ejections for technical fouls during the season will result in suspension for the remainder of the season, including playoffs.
- If a team has two players ejected in the same game for technical fouls, the team will lose the game by default. This includes all league and play-off games.
- Suspended players are not allowed to be in attendance of any league games during the duration of their suspension.
- Fighting – which includes: pushing and shoving, punishing, excessive physicality will not be tolerated:
- Any aggressive physical contact will result in a minimum suspension of 2 games.
- Based on the circumstances situation and the person’s conduct throughout the season, the suspension may be longer (i.e. rest of season, or multi year suspension)
- That player has 1 minute to gather his belongings and leave the gym and the Church property immediately. If the player(s) do not leave the building and Church property the game will be forfeited immediately to the other team and the player(s) will be suspended for the remainder of the league season
- Players contributing to a fight, or threatening violence will also be subject to discipline at the discretion of the Discipline Committee
- NO REFUNDS WILL BE GRANTED TO ANY PLAYER FOR GAMES THAT ARE MISSED FOR DISCIPLINARY REASONS
Any behaviour related incident will be discussed on a case-by-case bases and may involve a decision by the Discipline Committee.
- Members will of the Committee will be recused under the following circumstances:
- Situation involves a teammate of theirs
- Situation involves play-off implications
- Situation involves a game in which the member of the committee was a participant
- Decision Making Process
- If there is an incident, a report will be circulated
- Player will be permitted to submit a statement of defense within 24 hours of being notified
- The committee will then decide based on the information it receives
- The games will consist of two-twenty minute halves run time. Half-time will be 3-5 minutes in duration.
- Timeouts
- Players may only substitute on dead balls after reporting to the scorer’s table.
- All games will have a four minute overtime period all stop time. Overtime will begin with a jump ball and the teams will not change baskets. Time-outs and fouls do carry over into overtime.
- Defaults:
a. Teams are only allowed two timeouts (60 seconds each) per game
b. 1 additional timeout per OT – Timeouts must be used during the respective OT assigned – use it or lose it.
a. Each team is required to have 5 players before tipoff, if a team does not have the 5 players dressed and ready, the score keeper will run the clock for 10 minutes and if the fifth player fails to show up in time, the game is defaulted in favour of the team with 5 players.
b.Defaults are assessed as -1 in points for standings purposes
